SMART DATA

  • By requesting a Smart Setup, you are agreeing to the connection of your TV to the internet.
  • Technologies such as Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) track what you watch on your TV to serve you personalised ads.
  • The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) have updated their guidance covering the processing of personal information by organisations providing Internet of Things (IoT) products due to the Data (Use and Access) Act coming into law on 19 June 2025. This includes home entertainment products ie connected TVs and smart speakers.
  • The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) sit alongside the Data Protection Act and the UK GDPR. They give people specific privacy rights in relation to electronic communications.
  • When your smart TV is set up, ACR is off by default. Your TV will ask if you want to switch the feature on and show a short explanation of the technology. You will be given options to accept or reject ACR technology and you can amend your choice within the settings.
  • Sign up to streaming apps requires your date of birth and email address.
  • Opting out of any services may make it impossible to install a Smart Setup or give you reduced services.
  • If you are concerned about ACR or any other data collections, please speak to your TV supplier/manufacturer before booking our services.
  • More information about the Internet of Things is available on the ICO website  Guidance for consumer Internet of Things products and services | ICO
